A little baked goods factory in Woodside, Queens, N.Y., wants to take a big bite out of the bagel biz. You probably never heard of Davidovich Bakery, even though the 14-year-old company sells its chewy, kosher bagels in delis and gourmet shops throughout the city. But lately the quiet bagel wholesaler, a division of Queens food distributor All Natural Products, has been boiling over with plans to capitalize on the demise of bagel titan H&H Bagels.

Bimbo Bakeries to build $75 million Rockwall, Texas, facility

Bimbo Bakeries USA is going to build a 300,000-square-foot, $75 million bakery facility in Rockwall, Texas, that will bring 130 new jobs to the city, the Rockwall Economic Development Corp. announced. The Rockwall facility will be in the Rockwall Technology Park between Discovery Boulevard, Data Drive and Springer Road in Phase II of the park. The site is just south of Interstate 30 in Rockwall.

When Annie's Naturally Bakery closed down last November, among those mourning the loss of the beloved coffee, bakery and gathering place in Sylva was Annie's faithful Charles King. Without a new owner, the fate of the long-time Main Street institution seemed uncertain. "Annie's closing left a void that needed to be filled," King said. So eventually, fans of the bakery and cafe decided to take matters into their own hands.

A 20-foot boulder crushed a bakery but not a spirit. Robert Dubuc is resurrecting Bread, Coffee & Cake in Mendota Heights, Minn., about 10 minutes from the St. Paul spot where a boulder "the size of two vans" fell on the roof and destroyed the original bakery about a year ago. The new digs, a former Tuesday Morning store at Mendota Plaza on Minnesota 110 and Dodd Road, will be three times the size of the former location.

This has been a tough year for most Michigan fruit farmers, but one family farm in Fennville is doing pretty well with a side business that attracts people from miles away. "It is not one of the restaurants you see every place else. That is what I look for in a restaurant. We look for a place that is off the beaten path. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. We definitely won here," said Mary Ann Kaiser, from Noblesville Indiana during her second visit to Crane's Pie Pantry & Bakery in just one week.
